De-industrialized in the 70's and 80's we now have
CAMDEN west, or GARY west, or GOD forbid DETROIT
west or the list goes on. Strange to say the city
was knocked on its' behind by the top group of predators. Except for the upper-class north hills
dwellers. The flatlands have become a circus of
pathological bottom feeding predators. Most of the
regular folks (white, black, hispanic left years
ago. If you were really poor too bad. You stayed
to endure the jacks, muggings, out of control schools ineffective cops and the daily escalation
of fear. So sad our leadership ignore these facts
that so many citizens face. I mean our politicos
both NATIONAL and LOCAL. Our media loves to report the CHAOS AS IF IT bleeds it leads type EVENTS- shootings, STRONG ARM ROBBERIES, HOME INVASIONS ETC. a SEA OF ULTRA VIOLENCE THAT MANY
IN THE USA DON'T WANT TO ADMIT TO LET ALONE FACE.
THE CRAP THAT'S ON THE VERGE OF TURNING THE COUNTRY INTO A THUGE CULTURE LIKE MANY PLACES IN
LATIN AMERICA. The neglect of the City of Oakland
is part of the ROT that'll equal more death a destruction in our once great country. We've been warned, or are we just to ignorant to help particularly the children so that they become more than just denizens of the street in what has now become a hole. The people 1928 or even 1968 would be appled at this DEClINE. WHY ARE WE SO STUPID!

Subject: Great Stock Footage!
Subject: Great Stock Footage!
I have to give this film it's props. No, it's not entertaining, but who watches a real estate film to be entertained?
It has great footage of Oakland, CA.
Oakland is one of the hardest locations to find stock footage, plus it's free.
I gave five stars because of the great aerial shots.

A rather roundabout way of enticing people live in a new development. The movie actually starts with a fragment of another film that was probably produced by the same folks and features some nice primative animation of the different direct routes via rail and ship are served from Oakland.
After some upside down film and a shot of The First And Last Chance Saloon, we get to "East Bay Cities." It was shot by Jerry Fairbanks before he went on to Paramount in the 1930s and 1940s, and eventually into early television syndication and producing industrial films of his own.
At first, you'd think that this film is aimed at industrial owners, since transportation and industry is the focus. Expansion of the port of Oakland, and shots from the dawn of commercial airline service, along with a mail plane are a real highlight here. Then, the list of all the manufactures in greater Oakland is provided. Car makers, back when companies had regional plants, are the initial push, with Willys (Jeep) and Chrysler getting highlighted. Other manufactures of the note are Magnavox, Sherwin-Williams, and Shredded Wheat (bought by Nabisco). There also appears to be some replacement title cards done at a much later date in this print; the one for Standard Oil (Cheveron) for example.
Only at the very end, after a couple of brief shots of "women's" activities (buildings, really), do we have a man in a suit come up and talk at the camera. Without title cards, it is possible that originally, there was a short recorded message that was supposed to be played at that point, welcoming potential buyers to the new housing development.
Overall, while interesting, it's mainly a bunch of shots of industrial buildings. The animation from the fragment and the early airline service are probably the best from historial/graphical purposes.

A silent fifteen minute (!!) testimonial about how great Oakland is (their words, not mine). Actually, that film doesn¡¦t really get going for 2 mins. Before that, we see every single way we can get to Oakland by train and ship. This was rather unnecessary. Then we jerkily cut to some old codger in front of a store called the first and last chance. THEN, after a brief upside down segment and a rather long leader, it goes to the main feature, which is actually called ¡§East Bay Cities¡¨ (Trivia: Jerry Fairbanks did the photography!!) and it¡¦s just a rundown of the many industries Oakland has. Nothing extraordinary about this, and nothing really about real estate, which I thought it was going to be about.

Contains very short movie of j.m.heinold standing outside the FIRST AND LAST CHANCE bar in oakland. He was the founder and first proprietor o f this famous bar. Its fame derives from Jack London who made the bar his favorite place for reading and writing..The bar still operates and is on the historic monuments register, A Google search will yield much more information and photographs.
